Super Lucky’s Tale – Preview Article

Super Lucky’s Tale is an Indie 3D platformer coming out for the PC and Xbox One. Developed by Playful Corp and published by Microsoft this game shows a lot of promise while giving us a feeling of Nostalgia and keeping the gameplay fresh and fun.

The Story

The game was first announced during the E3 conference to be a Non-VR sequel to the 2016’s Oculus Rift game Lucky’s Tale. The game follows Lucky our extremely energetic and lovable hero across his quest to find inner strength and help his sister rescue the book of Ages from Jinx.  Jinx is the antagonist of this tale and is a mysterious and scheming villain with an objective to reshape this world.

Throughout the game, Lucky encounters a slew of other characters including friends and foes. He meets Yetis, Kooky Spookies, a village of farming worms and other colorful friends inhabiting of Ages. Lucky also meets adversaries like the nefarious Kitty Litter who are Jinx’s mischievous kids who may be interpreting Jinx’s Mission incorrectly.

Gameplay Impressions

There is a lot of potential for a platformer from the past to go wrong when coming back in 2017, However Super Lucky’s tale is able to give us a nice little package of gameplay and nostalgia that appeals not only to kids but also older gamers who will enjoy the platformer gameplay of Super Lucky’s Tale.  Lucky jumps and swings his tail around as he races around a world, breaks open boxes and dodges flamethrowers. There are coins and collectibles too, of course. It’s the kind of game that takes seconds to get into.

The game doesn’t push player to take the “collect everything approach” like similar games such as Banjo-Kazooie. Super Lucky’s Tale focuses on a main linear quest while having optional collectibles along the way. For example, even if you did not collect all the coins/collectibles along the way and just defeated the Main boss, the game would not knock you down for that, but instead reward you for defeating the boss.

The game will be Available on Xbox One and makes full use of the power of the console allowing, Super Lucky’s Tale to run at 60fps.

“The fact the game is running in 60 frames per second is probably actually the most impactful thing for a platforming game,” Bettner the creator of the game explained. “It gives you this precision and it really benefits the game like this that’s a lot about timing and about controlling this character–and it just feels great.
