Cozy Talk – New Content on the Website?!

For the last couple of days, I have been running around with the idea of making something for this website, that not only could be engaging to read but also to interactive with your own ideas and perpectives on a given theme.

So after talking it through with my own mirror image and also the fantastic people –Β PowerBombAttack, LaterLevels and TheWellRedMage – that would listen me out to give some feedback as well, has now let me wanting to put out this small Cozy Talk.

In many video game reviews, both in written-, audio- and video format. Often people go into talking about what they don’t like in a certain video game but doesn’t take that step further to look at the mechanic, theme or even character as a whole in why they don’t like/hate them. That is what I would love to delve deeper towards, really taking that extra look on exactly why, and if what way could that be made better or at least get a different take on it.
For this I’m thinking of making it like a running thing that will come out once a week (who knows if more), where myself or a guest blogger will write a piece on it, putting it out for you guys to read and maybe come up with ideas or solutions to the problem yourself. The whole idea is to shed some light on what can be made into a discussion as a community.

Although I was also thinking if it rather should be like an event, where I just post the question with a subject on my own and see if others in the community would pick up the mantle, to then continue answering their own question at hand in the given theme.

The name for this new content/series would go by either two names:

“GamingΒ Gripes”

“Gaming Grudges”

Over all the shorten term would be “GG” which can’t be more game related than that. πŸ™‚

I’m still thinking the former would be more fun to do, but I would love to hear what you guys think about it and if you have some other ideas on how it could be handled.

Stay Cozy and have a nice day!

  1. Sounds like a good idea to me. I like the thought of stimulating conversation about gaming grumbles – I’m probably guilty of complaining about something from a game without thinking about why I didn’t like it. Excited to see what you can do with it πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. It’s something I don’t see being done very much in the video game industry and would like to shed some light on it for others to see.

Just to be curious here, in what way of how I wrote it to be done. What would you perhaps say could be the better way going about it? πŸ™‚

  2. I used to write this weekly-ish featured that I called Annoying Game Mechanics, where I discussed a mechanic or part of game design that I found annoying, with annoying in this case being that it used very often and badly in that regard, but had good uses as well, and gave examples on both at the end.

What I mean to say with that shameless self-promotion is that I enjoy looking at mechanics and things that don’t work in games in depth. Also, much like it was with George Carlin, complaining is a bit of a motif for me πŸ˜›

    1. Wow, did not know the man himself behind The Mental Attic would show up. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for reading this.

I find it interesting to always talk about both sides of the spectrum, when looking at things (one of the reasons my family have a hard time discussing politics and such with me), in a way it lets you get to talk as you wrote, about both the good and the bad. Which is why I want to talk about the industry as a whole, it can cover a lot more ground and shine some light on subjects we tend to overlook.

Would love to have a further discussion with you about the recent changes that has happened in the industry 😁

      1. You make me sound important there haha, which I appreciate but totally don’t deserve haha.

I can usually see both sides, but often enough there are topics and trends for which I will develop a set opinion based on experience, so it becomes a bit more difficult to be the devil’s advocate.

And sure, let me know the time and place πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks for taking the time to read. I’m glad you are interested in the idea and of course, who doesn’t like to rant…it’s practically in our genes and a very human thing to do.

If you are interested in participating, do let me know because the more the merrier πŸ™‚

  3. What an interesting idea! I’d love to get involved if you’re looking to collaborate, or to rant on my own site if you post the questions! You’re right that too many times people just rant about what they don’t like and really don’t take the time to look a little deeper, so it would be really neat to delve into that more.

    1. I would love to collaborate with you Athena on both this and if something else could come into play which you would like to do. πŸ™‚
Chris from Overthinkery gave a good idea on how to make it work and I believe it could seem very interesting to try out. Imagine trying to defend or prosecute a subject in the series. Both trying to find what could be done better or at least finding a different road to take.

I’m excited to get this started and all that needs is a subject, a date and who will be joining πŸ™‚

  4. I would love to sign up if you’ve got the room! With Blogger Blitz over I need something to keep the community going – I already miss the love, haha.
Do we need to approach you with topics we are interested in discussing, or are you going to throw out options and see who is interested in each one? If we need to bring suggestions I’ll have to think about what gripe I want to unpack.
P.S. The name is really clever, extra points!

    1. Wouild be more than happy to have you on board Robert, since you can give some tips on how to go through with it and such πŸ™‚
The idea is, it will be either me that comes up with a topic if noone can, then if you do got an idea let me know immediately and if commenters got something themselves…even better. It’s really all about going with this as a community.

PS. It’s a fun little pun, so I must remind myself to give PowerBombAttack a thank you πŸ™‚
